Ludlow is located at the southern tip of Shropshire, near the borders of Herefordshire and Wales, so it is an ideal base for exploring the region.

By train:

The Maltings is only a 3-minute walk from Ludlow Train Station.  There is plenty to see and do (and eat!) within walking distance, so if you'd like to keep it simple and stay local, leave the car at home.  

Ludlow is on the main Manchester/Cardiff line and has excellent rail links.

    • London is just over 3 hours away (from Paddington or Euston; changing at Newport or Crewe).  
    • Manchester Piccadilly is 1 hour & 40 minutes direct to Ludlow.  
    • Birmingham is roughly 1 hour & 50 minutes - change at Shrewsbury or Hereford.  
    • Cardiff is only 1 hour & 25 minutes direct.  
    • Bristol Parkway is 1 hour & 50 minutes, changing at Newport.
    • Shrewsbury and Hereford are only a couple of stops from Ludlow - some trains are even direct.  Both are an easy 20-30 minutes.

By car:

Ludlow is a mile from the A49 and very easy to find.  See the Google map below for more detail.  

We are very well situated for day trips to Shrewsbury, Leominster, LedburyHay-on-Wye and a wide variety of historic houses and gardens.

We provide free parking for 1 car - quite a rarity in central Ludlow!  When we confirm your booking, we'll send you detailed directions and parking instructions.  

We also have plenty of secure storage for bicycles - if you'd prefer to explore the area on 2 wheels.

By air:

The closest airport is Birmingham International, which is approximately 1 hour & 20 minutes by car.  Manchester International Airport is roughly 2.5 hours.
