A Foodie's Paradise

In your kitchen, you'll find a generous selection of herbs & spices, coffee and teas, locally-produced oil & vinegars, fresh local milk and eggs, butter and jam, fresh fruit — plus a few other local goodies for you to enjoy.  We also have a culinary herb garden, so if you're staying over the summer, try a sprig of chocolate mint, Greek basil, chervil, fennel, lovage . . . whatever looks abundant.  In the autumn, help yourself to an apple from our little orchard - or evergreen herbs like rosemary and sage.

If you're a keen cook, you'll be spoilt for choice.  Ludlow has near-daily food markets, and a fantastic array of other purveyors:  gourmet delicatessens, cheesemongers, fishmongers, coffee & tea merchants, a vintner, a micro-brewery, a chocolatier, an Italian 'cicchetti bar' and extremely good butchers and bakeries (one is only 2 doors away).  The outstanding Ludlow Food Centre, repeatedly voted one of the best farmshops in the UK, is only 5 minutes by car — or there's a lovely walk through beautiful rolling farmland.  For more basic necessities, Tesco and Aldi are nearby.

If you would rather dine out, there are some terrific restaurants and pubs practically on your doorstep. Mortimer's and Bistro 7 are right across the street, and it's a short stroll to The French Pantry, Elliott's at Dinham Hall, The Green Cafe . . . the list goes on.  Ludlow Kitchen, The Clive and Fishmore Hall are only 5 minutes' drive, and the superb Old Downton Lodge is about 10-15 minutes, but well worth the trip!  Since Ludlow is a firmly-established 'Foodie Mecca', it's always a good idea to book in advance.  Let us know if we can help.
